New Award Supports Palliative Care Knowledge and Skills

Community Foundation Grey Bruce (CFGB) is pleased to announce a new award for Grey Bruce residents interested in acquiring palliative care knowledge and skills to improve the illness experience for members of our community.

The Dr. Hilli Huff Palliative Care Education Fund was opened in 2019 by a group of physicians that wanted to encourage continuing education in palliative care while recognizing the contributions that Dr. Hilli Huff has made to the field in Grey Bruce.

Dr. Susan Batten states that “All in our community deserve access to palliative care close to, or in their own home. In rural communities, we have extra burdens to access education, and thus increased costs.  My hope is that this fund will help reduce the burden of access to education for care providers and volunteers, build capacity, and keep excellence in palliative care provision within our community of Grey Bruce.”

Stuart Reid, Executive Director of CFGB welcomes those who are currently working or volunteering in palliative care, and/or are interested in expanding their skills to apply. “This award will give care providers and volunteers knowledge and unique skills that are so important in supporting families as they deal with the final stages of life for a loved one.”

Several recipients will be chosen each year through an online application process. The application can be accessed here and the deadline to apply is October 31, 2022. Reach out to Jennifer Legge, Grants and Donor Relations Coordinator at CFGB at 519-371-7203 or email jen.legge@cfgb.ca to discuss your eligibility and your chosen education, training, or conference.
