Local National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Events
On Tuesday, September 30, Grey and Bruce communities are invited to observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – a time to grieve, remember, learn, and recommit to this ongoing work. We encourage community members to participate in local events and activities taking place throughout the region. These events provide opportunities to learn, reflect, honour Survivors, and support reconciliation efforts.

Rogers TV will be offering a daily land acknowledgement on their community cable channel 53 in Grey County and on all community channels across Canada starting on Sept. 30.

Gichi-Name Wiikwedong Reconciliation Garden
The Gichi-Name Wiikwedong Reconciliation Garden is a contemplative sanctuary rooted in the Spirit of Reconciliation, where our community can pause, reflect, and remember. The site was chosen because oral and written histories tell us the banks of the Sydenham and Potawatomi rivers were once fertile hunting and fishing grounds of the Saugeen Ojibwa Nation of the Nawash people.
Location: South end of Kelso Beach at Nawash Park (Vehicle entrance: 100 19th Street West, Owen Sound)
Kincardine
Walk for Wenjack - September 27, 2026
The Municipality of Kincardine, in partnership with Bruce County, is hosting a Walk for Wenjack on Sunday, September 27, 2026 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. as part of the National Walk for Wenjack initiative led by the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund (DWF). The walk honours Chanie Wenjack, a young Anishinaabe boy who died while trying to return home after escaping a residential school. It offers a space for Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples to come together to reflect, learn, and take action on the journey toward reconciliation. Participants will gather at Rotary Sand 'n Slide Playground, located at the south end of Station Beach, and walk a 2 km route to Dunsmoor Park and back, with a guided discussion at the Pavilion. Light refreshments will be available, and donations for the Saugeen First Nations Food Bank will be accepted on site.

The Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation invites families, community members, organizations, and neighbouring communities to gather with us for an evening of remembering, sharing, learning, and connection.

Bruce County Public Library – Walkerton Branch + Bruce County Public Library – Sauble Beach Branch recognize National Day for Truth and Reconciliation by sharing stories written and illustrated by Indigenous creators.
