Community Foundation Grey Bruce lost an amazing friend with the death of Jan Chamberlain on July 1, 2025.

Jan was a true champion of our work in community philanthropy in Owen Sound and across the region of Grey Bruce. Over the past three decades since our inception in 1994, Jan has been an engaged Ambassador and an enthusiastic volunteer and donor. Jan was a member of the Board of Directors from 1995 to 2003, and from 2006 to 2009. She also led the Foundation as the Chair of the Board in 2002 and 2003.

In 2003, Jan started the Chamberlain Family Fund, an endowment that supports the ongoing operations and charitable activities of Community Foundation Grey Bruce. The fund has grown with memorial donations over the years, particularly in memory of her mother-in-law, Irena Chamberlain (d. 2003), Jan’s husband, Dr. George Chamberlain (d. 2005) and her daughter, Sally Hunt (d. 2014).

Jan was a committed enthusiast for the city where she was born and chose to raise her family. Jan was an original member of The Owen Sound Fund advisory team – that community fund continues to support the important work of charities and non-profits that benefits and enriches the lives of the people of Owen Sound. She also initiated other endowed funds including the agency fund that benefits the Community Waterfront Heritage Centre. Through her kindness, generosity and volunteerism, Jan encouraged others to give back to their community.

We offer heartfelt condolences to her family and many friends. Long may her memory and legacy live on.
