Community Foundation grants over $217,000 to regional charities

[OWEN SOUND, June 17, 2025] Community Foundation Grey Bruce (CFGB) is pleased to announce the fifty-eight recipients of their Spring Community Grants. Over $217,000 was awarded in this round of community grants. In 2025, CFGB increased the maximum amount for each grant to $5,000 and the allowable administration expenses to 25% of the requested project budget. These enhancements to granting were encouraging to local charities and eighty-two applications were received by the deadline of April 22.

Covering a broad region and a diversity of objectives, the list of spring grants awarded shows support for many areas of community wellbeing including arts & recreation, food security, the environment, health & mental wellness, equity, and inclusion. Grants from CFGB also reach across Grey Bruce, investing in communities from Tobermory to Kincardine to Town of Blue Mountains.

This spring, CFGB noted a growing trend in projects related to Mental Wellness, Supports for Youth, Equity & Inclusion, and Reconciliation as local priorities. A sample of exciting projects includes:

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters is offering an in-school mentoring project.
  • Canadian Mental Health Association Grey Bruce is supporting the community garden, projects to support existing clients and raising organizational resource awareness.
  • Home and Community Support Services are launching a Reconciliation Journey to enhance staff capacity to deliver informed, sensitive care for our Indigenous community.
  • Christmas on the Bay in Meaford will offer performances by adults with diverse abilities.
  • Elephant Thoughts is working with Indigenous youth on their Bagida’waad Bunkie.
  • The Sustainability Project continues support of the Youth Climate Action Forum and Food Gleaning project to divert food waste.
  • United Way Bruce Grey is bolstering child wellbeing within the region by facilitating a Car Seat Safety (train the trainer) and Adverse Childhood Experiences training for staff.
  • Owen Sound Minor Baseball will be offering a dedicated girl’s baseball team.
  • Events for Life will provide accessible transportation and a butterfly garden.

Stuart Reid, Executive Director, comments: “Every year the Foundation learns so much about what is happening in communities across Grey Bruce through our Spring application intake. We are seeing the creativity and resilience of the local charitable sector amid challenging times. People helping people makes our community a better place to live, work and play for everyone.”

CFGB manages over 196 endowed funds created by generous local individuals, families, and agencies. Community grants are supported by thirty-two endowed funds. CFGB relies on the skill sets and experience of volunteer reviewers in our grantmaking process. A full list of Spring Community Grant recipients can be found on CFGB’s website. The next deadline for applications is September 15. Eligible organizations are encouraged to visit www.communityfoundationgreybruce.com to learn more and apply.

Created in 1994, CFGB has a mandate to enhance community vitality by fostering open discussion about local need, sharing knowledge, and growing endowments to provide strategic granting and support to a wide range of non-profit organizations. CFGB’s vision is that everyone in Grey Bruce benefits from a vital, healthy, and resilient community. We’re here for good.
