Join our Grant Review Team!
Community Foundation Grey Bruce (CFGB) is committed to enriching the quality of life for people of the area by supporting projects of not-for-profit charitable, educational, cultural, recreational, and environmental organizations. The Foundation does this by providing grants and scholarships each year.
We rely on volunteers on our review teams to evaluate the merit of applications and come to consensus for awarding grants.
Reviewers possess experience with:
- local community service organization’s
- reading or writing grants,
- personal lived experience with the needs of Grey Bruce,
- or an interest in strengthening the Grey Bruce community.

What are the Benefits?
As a Grant Review Team Volunteer you have the satisfaction of
- Recommending disbursement of important financial support through CFGB grants to Non-profits and Charities across Grey Bruce in an equitable manner.
- Gaining knowledge of the non-profit sector in Grey Bruce and
- Skills that are useful to writing grants in the future.
How much time do I have to commit?
For each review process a volunteer participates in:
- 6 to 20 hours over a 3-week period to familiarize yourself with the review criteria, and read and review applications (dependant on how fast you read and your experience with reviewing)
- 3-hour daytime zoom meeting for review team consensus, additional 3-hour meeting if necessary to complete the work
- Active Review Team members are eligible for 3, 2-year terms on any individual grant team.
How will CFGB support reviewers?
CFGB will offer and maintain:
- Annual training to reviewers, both general information and specific to the grant opportunity under review
- Open lines of communication with the volunteer for concerns and seek regular feedback opportunities for the volunteer and CFGB
- Volunteer records and provide a reference in writing if requested regarding their role on the Grant Review Team.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Read all applications prior to review team meeting.
- Thoroughly review 6 – 10 applications assigned to you and be prepared to present your findings to the group
- Reserve the time to attend both online team meetings
- As applications and review will be done online, volunteers must be comfortable working online and have access to a computer with internet access. Access for the team meeting may be possible at the CFGB office.
- Information documents including eligibility information and review guidelines will be provided
- Review Team members may be asked to participate in other review opportunities as they arise.
- Review Team members may be asked to participate in creation of eligibility requirements, applications, and evaluations templates for new and evolving grant opportunities.
CFGB Review Team members will:
- Work with and report to the Grants and Donor Relations Coordinator, and the Chair of the Granting Committee.
- Required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement, declare any perceived conflicts of interest, and may be asked to provide a police record check.
- Not need to incur any expenses during their role. Any potential expenses must be approved prior to purchase.
