Community Foundation Grey Bruce grants $100,000 to local charities for food and housing initiatives

Community Foundation Grey Bruce (CFGB) is pleased to announce that it is concluding the 2024 fiscal year by issuing over $100,000 in grants to local charities for food security and housing initiatives. A substantial portion of this funding is provided by the Eva Leflar Donor-Advised Endowment Fund that supports the wellbeing of youth and families in Grey Bruce. This end-of-year granting brings the total amount of grants issued by Community Foundation in 2024 to over $865,000.

Stuart Reid, Executive Director of CFGB says “These grants are substantial and strategic. This year, more people need to access the local food banks while the rising cost of housing is a huge challenge faced by local families. Food and housing pose critical threats to subsistence for people in our community – they need our help.”

In addition to OSHaRE (Owen Sound Hunger and Relief Effort), ten food banks from Tobermory to Walkerton are receiving grants. Other agencies providing support and shelter are also on the list of recipients: Safe ‘N Sound Grey Bruce, The Women’s Centre Grey Bruce, as well as S.O.S. (Supportive Outreach Services) in Grey and Bruce, are among ten recipient agencies.

The United Way Bruce Grey is receiving support for its Utility Relief Fund, making sure low-income households that are in arrears or at risk of disconnection, stay warm this winter. Francesca Dobbyn, Executive Director, says, "Together, the United Way and the Community Foundation demonstrate the power of collaboration in building stronger communities. Through their generous funding of the S.O.S. Project and the Utility Assistance Program, the Foundation is not only addressing immediate needs but also paving the way for lasting change and hope in our community."

This year, more than ever, the Community Foundation urges those that can, to support a local charity as part of their gift-giving. Visit www.communityfoundationgreybruce.com to make an online donation or call 519 371 7203 to make a donation with a credit card over the phone. Tax receipts are issued in the amount of the donation.

Created in 1994, Community Foundation Grey Bruce has a mandate to enhance community vitality by fostering open discussion about local need, sharing knowledge, and growing endowments to provide strategic granting and support to a wide range of non-profit organizations. The Foundation’s vision is that everyone in Grey Bruce benefits from a vital, healthy, and resilient community. We’re here for good.
