Community Foundation announces over $128,000 in Spring Community Grants

Community Foundation Grey Bruce (CFGB) is pleased to announce the 61 recipients of their Spring Community Grants. Covering a broad region from Tobermory to Kincardine to Town of Blue Mountains, this diverse group of grants is awarded to charities and non-profits addressing all aspects of community wellbeing: food security; affordable housing; literacy and education; kids access to sports and recreation; music, arts and culture; diversity and inclusion; community health; and palliative care.

This spring the Community Foundation noted a growing trend in projects related to nature, conservation, and sustainable practices. A sampling of exciting projects includes:

Bruce Peninsula Bird Observatory offers a learning project on wild bird migration.
Bruce Peninsula Biosphere Association creates a livestock watering system improving water quality in local streams.

  • Elephant Thoughts Educational Outreach educates youth on bee husbandry.
  • Tara Horticultural Society plants one hundred sizable native trees to enhance trails and mitigate climate change.
  • Rotary Club in Markdale brings pollinators back with a project for youth.
  • Wiarton Propellor Club reduces its environmental footprint with a green tableware project.

Stuart Reid, Executive Director, comments: “The Community Foundation garners a unique perspective on what priorities are emerging for communities across our region through this application intake. The creativity and commitment of area charities and non-profits bodes well for resiliency and adaptability in Grey Bruce, even in challenging times.”
