OWEN SOUND, ON, May 1, 2018 – Community Foundation Grey Bruce is pleased to announce a new scholarship that will be awarded for the first time in 2018 to graduating students at Grey Highlands Secondary School.

The Dr. Goldie & Eileen Gray Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to one female and one male student recognized not only for their academic achievements, but also for their engagement with their community in a variety of ways; sports, music, and volunteerism. The scholarships are open to students pursuing any type of post-secondary education.

The Dr. Goldie and Eileen Gray Memorial Scholarship was established in 2015 for graduating students from Grey Highlands Secondary School. Dr. Goldie and his wife Eileen, arrived in Markdale in 1950. Dr. Goldie practiced as a General Surgeon and OB/GYN specialist at the Central Grey General Hospital for the next 35 years serving the residents of Markdale and Grey County.

The Grays believed firmly in the strength and support a community gives to its citizens by offering engagement at all levels. As a result, they were actively involved with numerous volunteer and fundraising associations, to name a few;  Rotary Club, School Board Trustee, Markdale Heritage Society, Liberal Party of Canada, Hospital Auxilary, Christ Church Anglican Church, C.G.I.T. and both were founding members of the Markdale Golf and Curling Club,
