Pirates, Prizes & Painted Creations

The consistent rain this past summer had many of us thinking of building boats. In Kincardine they do just that each August. In association with the Marine Heritage Festival, the Kincardine Community Fund Committee encouraged friends, families and organizations to spend the summer designing and constructing their very own cardboard boat to enter into the Regatta, which took place on the last Saturday in August. The cardboard creations (aka boats) raced on Lake Huron for the chance to attain the coveted Cardboard Trophy and of course, bragging rights.

In only its second year, the Cardboard Boat Regatta attracted hundreds of spectators and almost a dozen boat Captains.

Proceeds from the event are donated to the Kincardine Community Fund, however, this fun-filled morning is more than just a fundraiser. The event is a platform to raise awareness of the Fund, to highlight the organizations that are supported through grants and to help local community members and organizations understand the mission of the Committee.

While this event helped raise over $800 in proceeds since it began, it also provided an opportunity to introduce additional fundraisers, which include the sales of Spicy Pickled Beans and World Friendship Tulips, which will be available through the Fall.

The Kincardine Community Fund would like to thank the sponsors that help make these initiatives a success.
